Senior Linux Systems Administrator

Seattle, New York

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting Linux systems
  • Documenting and following operational procedures
  • Perform installations/patching of operating system, software installation, and system backups - data recovery

Required Skills:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related technical degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 8-10+ years hands on experience with Linux (i.e. Redhat, OEl)
  • Experienced use of configuration management tools (CFEngine, Chef, Puppet)
  • Experience in cloud computing services (for example EC2, is a plus)
  • Working knowledge of popular programming languages such as: Java, C, PHP
  • Familiarity with open source tools, monitoring systems, tracking, resolution, and routine maintenance with security updates
  • Dark datacenter administration experience at a co-location facility Knowledge of storage concepts are a must (LVM or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of Kickstart, and virtualization concepts (Xen, KVM)
  • Solid understanding of Perl, Shell, Python
  • Respond to systems alerts, and perform root cause analysis and participate in an on-call rotation
  • Configure DNS, Mail Services
  • Good networking concepts and tools
  • Perform installations/patching of operating system, software installation, and system backups - data recovery
  • Document and follow operational procedures
  • Packaging experience using RPM
  • Possess great people skills (must be able to interact with other technical groups), and must be able to work independently as well as within an Agile methodology
  • Great problem solving skills are a must

Desired Skills:

  • Experience administering systems like MongoDB, ElasticSearch and Solr
  • Knowledge of Redhat Cobbler
  • Knowledge of cluster file systems (GFS/OCFS)
  • Knowledge of Zabbix
